The phrase, “hit like a girl,” started out as something I used to say to our Juniors karate class. I would tell them, “In this class, when we say you ‘hit like a girl,’ it’s a compliment!” This is not only a saying; it is a hard fact. Anyone need only see our girls hit once. Especially at a young age, this has a noticeable impact (pun intended, I suppose). It reinforces, in our girls and boys, that they are strong regardless of gender. They are responsible, capable, and respectful.
This became a natural carry-over for our kickboxing program for women. While the women are no “girls” per se, they can appreciate the double meaning in the physical and mental strength implied by the pride taken in truly “hitting like a girl.”
Our program is more than a strength and cardio work-out. We also touch on the subjects of self-defense, mental strength, and inner-peace that go beyond fighting.
